Principal's Message
 Dear RBIS Families,

Welcome back to the start of the 2010-2011 school year! Last week our students appeared very content and excited to meet their new teachers and classmates. I think even the Early Years students were smiling by the end of the week! We are so fortunate to have a talented team of educators whose compassion, creativity, and insight allow students to feel welcome at school.  Visit our school website at www.rbischina.org to view and learn about all of the returning and new teachers at RBIS.

RBIS will be presented an award by the legendary Dr. Jane Goodall!
On Sunday, September 26th RBIS will be presented an award for completing the Roots and Shoots 1000 Tree Challenge by the legendary Dr. Jane Goodall. We have earned this award due to all of the dedicated teachers, students and parents at our school who are committed to environmental protection. This year, I am looking forward to all of the activities inside and outside of classrooms that will support our "Green" values and develop the minds of our young global citizens.

If you would like to participate in an event featuring Dr. Goodall’s celebration of 50 years of study, service, and sharing, check out these upcoming events and RSVP accordingly.

Principal’s Communication Memo
It is imperative that all urgent communications between home and school are communicated to the school admissions office at 62689773 or 62683121. Communication may include, but is not limited to:

• Student absence
• Student early leave
• Student will not take the bus
• Change of contact information
• Student will be picked up by another person
• Student allergy

This year teachers will staple a red Principal’s Communication Memo in the RBIS Daily Communication Book to help families remember to report this information to the admissions office. This is a new procedure, so I encourage any feedback.

Principal’s Mailbox
I have placed a mailbox outside of my office to foster a love of writing and to support literacy within our learning community. I encourage children and families to use the mailbox to send me letters, pictures, quick notes, or even photos. Send me mail and I’ll be sure to write you back!

Let’s be Green! Reduce the use of paper at RBIS!
In support of our school mission to be an environmentally conscious school community, several of our monthly communications will be sent home via email. If you are not receiving emails from your classroom teacher, please inform the teacher by writing your email in your child’s Daily Communication Book. Throughout the school year you will be emailed the following information:

• Principal’s newsletter (monthly)
• Highlights (monthly)
• Principal Tea (view school calendar)
• Friday Letters  (weekly)
• Roots and Shoots Newsletter and Announcements (periodicly throughout the year)
• School Cancellations

We also encourage families to talk to their children about reducing the use of paper reusing and recycling paper, as well as developing environmentally friendly printing practices. What does your family do to reduce the use of paper in your home? Talk about it today and share your stories with me at ms.rebecca.rbis@gmail.com.
