Parent Committee News…

Welcome! We had our 1^st meeting on September 16^th and discussed some of the activities we have planned for this school year. Our goal is to make the Parent Committee a more social group where the parents can get to know one another better. Join in on the events that interest you and if you want to volunteer to help out email us and we will put you to work. 

September will start off with:

·         An Afterschool gardening event 

·        

 in Shanghai. 

October will bring two events for parents:

·         A walk in the zoo—Scheduled for Friday the 16th

·         Lunch at a nearby restaurant—Scheduled for Wed. the 21^st

And an event for the students:

·         An Art contest--with the winning art placed on blank note cards that can be used as Christmas cards, Birthday cards, Chinese New Year cards, or any occasion cards. These will be on sale in November just in time for all those holidays. The money raised from this project will go to a charity.

Other activities we have planned are:

·         Movie Night—kids come after school and spend time with their friends watching a movie

·         Sports Day/Field Day—held on a school day in the zoo. This would be a day of sporting events and would get the parents involved too!

·         Day trips in Shanghai and a Family Bike trip (if you know of some good places to explore let us know!)

·         2^nd Hand Bazaar—to be held toward the end of the school year to help families pass along toys and books their children no longer use.

·         Food Committee—Parents would like to look at the school lunches and make some suggestions for possible changes. A meeting will be arranged in the next month or so.

Other activities that you can sign up for are: 

·         Language Exchange—if you want to learn another language email the Parent Committee and let us know. We will try and pair you up with another parent that can teach you the language you want to learn in exchange for you teaching them the language you speak (example—if you speak English but want to learn Mandarin we will pair you up with a parent that wants to learn English and can speak Mandarin).  

·         Gardening/Gardening Committee—If you like plants and want to help out with the organic gardens at school by helping to plant, weed and water whenever you have the time, email us. We will get you involved with Ms. Heather, the Science teacher. 

·         Guest Speakers--If any parents have a specialty in any field of science they are always welcome to volunteer their time. For example, someone in car manufacturing could talk about the physics behind choices made in designing cars or a dentist could discuss teeth and healthy brushing habits. So if you are interested in guest speaking let us know and Ms. Heather will find the best class and time for you to share your knowledge. 

·         Library Volunteers-- Ms. Adrienne could use some help from parents that are creative to help with some projects that will make the library an inviting place for the children. If this sounds like something you would like to do let us know and we will pass your information to Ms. Adrienne and she will find a project for you.
