RBIS offers a specialized learning program for students challenged by concepts in math, reading, and writing. The program provides an alternative to traditional methods of education by addressing the specific learning needs of individual students.
A significant element of the specialized learning program is the student support team composed of the student’s classroom teacher, school learning behavior specialist (LBS), parents, and curriculum coordinators. The team will work together to create environmental, curricular, and/or instructional modifications for the student in need. While these adjustments are implemented in the classroom and/or home, the student may also require the services of the LBS. Depending on the student’s learning needs, the LBS will either assist the student in the classroom or in an alternative setting with limited distractions.
The student support team determines student eligibility in the specialized learning program. To begin the process of eligibility, a parent or teacher may complete a Referral for Observation Form and submit it to the LBS. The LBS will schedule a time to observe the student and will provide feedback about the student’s performance to members of the student support team. After the initial observation, additional informal assessments conducted by the LBS may be necessary to establish student eligibility.
